Friday Night Movie: In The Land of Blood and Honey

"During the Bosnian War, Danijel, a soldier fighting for the Serbs, re-encounters Ajla, a Bosnian who's now a captive in his camp he oversees. Their once promising connection has become ambiguous as their motives have changed." (IMDb)

This marks Angelina Jolie's directorial debut. In order to shoot some parts of the movie in Bosnia, Jolie had to meet with the region's cultural minister to show him the script, to guarantee that the film doesn't have any blatant political views. Although, this movie has been expected to have some controversy and a lot of press coverage. It's been said that Angelina Jolie has even taken on an agent for future writing/directing projects. That's awesome. I think that's the next stage of an actors career. Hopefully, her film will be well received and play up to it's high standards. It's Angelina Jolie, so I'm sure the bar has been set for her.

Just to make sure everyone's clear, it was the director's (Jolie) final decision to release the film in the U.S. in the Bosnian language. So, the film will not be in English. For all you sub-title-haters out there, sorry. Although, two versions of the film have been shot (English and Bosnian). It is possible for it's DVD release that the English version will be an option. Regardless, I'm really interested in seeing the film, not particularly because I was so interested story line, but just to examine from a film buff's perspective, and just for the sake of art. Kudos to Jolie.

In The Land of Blood and Honey hits theaters December 23rd. Take a look at the trailer below. What do you think?
