"A family returns from a Grand Canyon vacation with a supernatural presence in tow" (IMDb).
So I'm a fan of the TV show Gotham, and was so happy to see David Mazouz starring in this. Besides all of that, even if you don't watch Gotham and don't know who Davd Mazouz is, who doesn't love a good supernatural horror flick?
My favorite part about horror movies is that I love talking back to the screen and knowing what's about to happen--hey, some gems actually surprise you and you may not know what's about to go down. While many moviegoers may find that irritable not able to enjoy the movie, with horror movies I just can't keep my mouth shut. I feel like it's some sort of mechanism to keep me from being "afraid" or jumping, and it just keeps me on the edge of my seat. It makes the overall experience more fun and for that reason, I don't see them in theaters anymore. I watch them alone or with friends who enjoy and engage in commentary with me. Wait...how did I get to this? I digress...
The film stars Kevin Bacon who plays father Peter Taylor. His son, Michael (David Mazouz) brings home a Native American artifact from a family vacation and all hell breaks lose. Greg McLean (Wolf Creek movies) is the film's co-writer and director. He says that the film was inspired by real events. "I was reading about people that had taken objects from the Grand Canyon, and then bad luck started to unfold" (EW).
We all know that Kevin Bacon is no stranger the horror genre, having starred in Friday the 13th, Tremors, Stir of Echoes, and Hollow Man. Bacon admits he'd been wanting to do a movie with Greg McLean for some time. "I like good horror. Love Greg. Saw Wolf Creek, first one, probably on the weekend it [opened]...I've been wanting to do a movie with Blumhouse, because I like Jason, and this came together. It's not a slasher movie. It's not a torture-kind of movie. It's more of a traditional haunted housey-type movie" (EW). Oh goody. My fav.
I look forward to it when it comes on demand! The Darkness hits theaters on Friday, May 13. *dun, dun duuuun!* Check out the trailer below. What do you think?
