"City kid Ren McCormack moves to a small town where rock 'n' roll and dancing have been banned, and his rebellious spirit shakes up the populace." (IMDb)

I had heard maybe a year or two ago that they were going to remake this original classic. I responded with a usual "rolling of the eyes". I mean, nothing is original anymore, so I figured it was only a matter of time. However, way back when before a cast had been determined, the buzz was all about Zac Efron playing lead, Ren McCormack. However, he turned the role down because he wanted to move away from all the musical themed movies, and into more serious roles. Now after watching the silly trailer for this movie, I think Zac would of been perfect. I would have actually made an attempt to see the movie.

I am so dooming this movie to fail. I know that sounds bad, but I just don't think it's going to live up to the original, I think mainly because It doesn't seem as believable to me. Although Julianne Hough, who plays the character Ariel says, “This is actually very true to the original, it’s a little twist but not so far fetched that you’re upset and you’re mad.” One thing that will be different, in a good way, will be Ren McCormack with better dancing skills--no offense to Kevin Bacon, he played his part well--Kenny Wormald who will be playing Ren, has a legit dancing background, so his skills definitely will be showcased.

But who knows, maybe the movie will actually prove itself. Unfortunately because we are in a new year, we won't be getting the classic phrases like, "Jump back!", or "Girl you are onn, uh-huh." (Sarah Jessica Parker). Even the Kenny Loggins hit "Footloose", is being re-made for the film. Footloose hits theaters October 14th.

I can hear Kenny Loggins breaking it down in my head now, "Cut footloose-ah!" Check out the trailer below, what do you think?
