"The fractious family of a father and his two sons confront their different feelings and memories of their deceased wife and mother, a famed war photographer." (IMDb)

This will be Norwegian director Joachim Trier's (Reprise, Olso August 31) first English-language film. After watching the trailer, I figured this indie drama would definitely be buzz worthy. While we've heard of and maybe seen many movies that follow the aftermath of a tragedy that rocks a family while they attempt to put the pieces together again, I think this will be a little different.

Some of the different reviews I've read point out how Trier's image-based storytelling are one the key factors that separate it from other films in the same genre. The film won over critics at the Cannes and Toronto film festivals and I'm sure the cast alone played a large part. The movie stars Jesse Eisenberg, David Strathairn, two-time Emmy nominee Gabriel Byrne, BAFTA winner Isabelle Huppert and Oscar nominee Amy Ryan.

The film is said to be a coming-of-age piece for the younger brother played by Devin Druid (Conrad). His performance in the film is said to be "eye-catching", so it looks like we'll be seeing more of the young actor in the future.

While many may think that the film's title is a reference to the Smith's classic compilation album, director Joachim Trier points out that Louder Than Bombs is about "neither war nor the Smiths". Trier noted that the title is actually borrowed from words by American poet Elizabeth Smart in her book "By Grand Central Station I Sat Down And Wept". Trier said "I loved that those words had a specifically American provenance as I worked on this film set in the US" (Empire).

Louder Than Bombs opens in theaters April 8th. You can check out the trailer below. What do you think?
