According to E!, the final Harry Potter has become the first in it's series to gross $1 billion worldwide (Announced by Warner Bros. Sunday, July 31).

In it's first two weeks of opening, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 became one of the biggest box-office openings in Hollywood. It has been named the Earth's 19th biggest ever grosser.

Among the records set by Harry Potter were: biggest-ever midnight take ($43.5 million); biggest-ever opening day and single day ($92.1 million); and, biggest-ever IMAX opening ($15.5 million).

Now, it's getting beat out by Captain America.

1.     Cowboys & Aliens     $36.4M
2.     The Smurfs         $35.6M
3.     Captain America: The First Avenger     $25.6M
4.     Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2     $22M
5.     Crazy, Stupid, Love.     $19.1

These numbers were by IMDB's Box Office. This week, neither Captain America or Harry Potter are number one and two in box office sales.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, just became the first movie to break $900 million after only 15 days in theaters worldwide. However, Harry Potter is beginning to lose it's hype. Why? BoxOffice.com Phil Contrino (via email) said, "Even a huge franchise like this has a ceiling, and the base hasn't expanded that much," (E! News). This means that all the hardcore Harry Potter fans rushed to the movies to see it, it's opening weekend. After the first two weeks...well everyone had seen it already. Phil Contrino also continued by saying that, "[HP8] doesn't have a shot at Avatar's record." (E! News)

All that aside, with a $1 billion gross worldwide, no one is really complaining. My mom and I saw HP8 two weeks ago, and we thought it was fantastic! Now I'm just waiting for the DVD release so we can complete our collection.
